Deacon Board - As Defined by the Church Constitution
The board of deacons shall consist of five active members. A vacancy shall be filled by electing a member at any scheduled business meeting of the church. It shall be the duties of the deacons to engage actively in all of the spiritual work of the church; seek out such members who need assistance, where there is need for relief; to visit the sick; to supervise the preparation and distribution of the elements of the Lord’s Supper; and to aid the pastor in all matters relating to the spiritual interests of the church.
The deacons shall be elected from among the members of the local church with the qualifications as laid down in I Timothy 3. When deacons are elected it shall be for an indefinite period of time. The deacons shall elect their own chairman from within the deacon board.
In the absence of the pastor, one of the deacons shall preside at all business meetings of the church and conduct the public worship of the congregation. They shall council with the pastor in the government and spiritual welfare of the church.
